Smoke signals of distress billowed across two separate horizons this past week as firefighters battled blazes both in the east Valley and on Ross Island, Southeast Portland. In the arid expanse of Maricopa County, teams from Mesa, Gilbert, and the Superstition Fire Department converged on a storage yard conflagration near Apache Trail and Mountain Road, Fox 10 Phoenix reported. While no casualties have been reported, the cause behind the flames remains a shrouded mystery, as persistent as the smoke that rose high into the Arizona sky.

The pilot who died in crash after releasing skydivers near Niagara Falls has been identified
LEWISTON, N.Y. — Officials on Sunday released the name of a pilot who died in a skydiving flight after her passengers jumped from the aircraft near the Niagara Falls. Melanie Georger, 26, was the only person on board when the single-engine Cessna crashed Saturday, the Niagara Country Sheriff's Office said in a statement. Georger, of the Town of Tonawanda, was working to become a commercial pilot, her father said Saturday in a statement on Facebook.

Fluoride Treatments On Track to Return to Buffalo Water
Within the next few weeks or months, the water coming out of taps in the city of Buffalo will once again have fluoride in it. Recently, a diver went into the river near the Colonel Ward Pumping Station to begin the process of preparing the city’s water system to once again be fluoridated. The diver completed a disinfection process and installed a flow meter into a 90” treated water conduit, which will “measure the treated water flow rates and help determine the proper amount of added fluoride during treatment,” the city said.
