Independence charity asking for water bottle donations as temperatures surge
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - With a heatwave hitting the Kansas City metro, a local organization is asking for help keeping people cool. The Community Services League, based in Independence, is hosting a donation drive for water bottles through the end of the week. The water will be distributed to unhoused people living in eastern Jackson County to help keep them hydrated in the heat and connected with CSL’s services.

A garage in Franklin County is damaged by fire. The Gerald Rosebud Fire Protection District says crews were dispatched to a structure fire on Angell Road, just south of Gerald, Friday. Crews arrived to find a working fire in the attic space of a garage. The fire was the result of a vehicle fire. The fire was quickly extinguished.

ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis man shot on his wedding night in late June is now awake. Francisco Gonzalez is out of the intensive care unit after being there for almost a month. Gonzalez was shot in the head as he was celebrating his wedding on June 28 in a St. Louis backyard. Dulce and Francisco Gonzalez tied the knot after a decade and two children together.
