ELKTON — Shovels broke ground at the Cecil County Farm Museum and Regional Agricultural Center to prepare for construction of a building that will house public restrooms and a commercial kitchen. Charlestown cancels its celebratory cannon fire
CHARLESTOWN — A small but loud part of town will be quiet this Independence Day. Charlestown officials informed town residents this week that the cannon, situated in Long Point Park at the corner of Water and Conestoga Streets, will not be fired July 4 at 10 a.m. as had been the tradition since 2018. Long Point Park was damaged by the June 24 fire that destroyed a historic waterfront home near the park. The cannon, which was restored by Dan Rubert, was not damaged but its accompanying flagpole was so town officials closed the park as a matter of public safety. The cannon fire was to be part of an Independence Day ceremony at Long Point Park. Town officials said Tuesday that the entire ceremony had been canceled.

Elkton man charged after gun-related incident spurs raid
ELKTON — A man remained jailed on Tuesday after he allegedly pointed a firearm at a visitor outside an Elkton residence over the weekend and threatened to shoot, leading to a police raid in which investigators confiscated more than two and a half ounces of suspect methamphetamine, two loaded handguns and other evidence, according to Cecil County District Court records. Woman charged with stealing car from parking lot of Delaware Park
A Dover woman is behind bars, charged with stealing a car from the parking lot of Delaware Park while its owner was busy gambling inside. The incident happened shortly before 6 p.m. June 28 at the casino east of Newark, according to Delaware State Police. The woman plucked the car keys from the victim's jacket, which had been left unattended at a slot machine, police said. She then went out into the parking lot, found the Nissan Altima and drove away with it, police said. Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Breana Brooks, 28. Officers with the Dover Police Department located Brooks in the stolen car the following day. She was charged with motor vehicle theft and was jailed after failing to post $2,000 secured bond.

The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred this morning at a Walgreens in Newark. On July 2, 2024, at approximately 8:07 a.m., troopers responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Walgreens located at 2719 Pulaski Highway in Newark. The preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown black male suspect armed with a firearm approached a Walgreens employee and demanded money from the safe. The employee complied and the suspect fled in an unknown direction with an undisclosed amount of cash.
