Two dead following early morning Tates Creek Road collision

UPDATE: August 17 at 8:46 p.m.

A prayer service was held today at the Masjid Bilal.

Shalash attended Lexington Universal Academy, the academy posted on Facebook.

"It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of the passing of one of our 8th-grade students, Omar Shalash, who was tragically involved in a car accident," wrote the academy. "We extend our heartfelt condolences and duaas to Omar's family during this difficult time."

According to the post, a burial followed the service.

An early morning single vehicle collision in the area of Tates Creek Road at Turkeyfoot Drive has left two dead.

According to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office, 18-year-old Hasan Mohammad Hasan and 13-year-old Omar Shalash died of injuries caused by the 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning collision.

The investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
