An officer with the Lexington Police Department was taken to a hospital Saturday night after being bitten by a dog while responding to a call.

The dog was injured when an officer fired a shot, hitting it.

Lexington police Lt. Matt Merker said multiple officers were responding to a call regarding a domestic disturbance on the 3500 block of Doral Place, off Todds Road, Saturday evening, when “a large canine” bit one of the officers on the arm.

Merker said one shot was fired, injuring the dog, at about 7:45 p.m.

Lexington-Fayette Animal Care and Control responded to the scene, along with police and the Lexington Fire Department.
