KSR Today: Kentucky Football Practice Updates, Big Day for Cats in Paris
By Tyler Thompson,
It’s shaping up to be another hot day in the Bluegrass, but there are plenty of things happening to keep us entertained. Today, we’ll get our first post-practice update from offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan, and in Paris, several Cats will be in action at the Olympics. On the KSR front, Matt Jones continues to settle back in following his vacation and we have a new KSFamily member to introduce.
Let’s start with football since we are only 25 days from kickoff vs. Southern Miss.
Updates from Bush Hamdan, Kentucky’s offense
Fall camp kicked off last week for the Kentucky Football team, and we got some glimpses of the Cats in action at open practices on Friday and Fan Day on Saturday. Today, offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan will meet with the media following practice, along with a few players.
Practice wraps up around lunchtime. Adam Luckett will be there for us, providing live updates on KSBoard and a full recap on the site shortly after. You can also see all the videos on the KSR YouTube Channel , where Luckett went live last night to share his thoughts on Kentucky’s open practices last week.
Eight former Kentucky Wildcats will be in action in Paris today, including one of the faces of the event, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone . The reigning 400m hurdles gold medalist and current world record holder will run in the semifinals today at 2:07 p.m. ET (NBC, Peacock). She cruised in the opening heats , winning hers by a time of 53.60 seconds. That ranked third overall but she hardly seemed to sweat. Today, she’ll be in the second heat of the semifinals, running out of lane seven.
Before that, Avery Skinner and the US Women’s Volleyball Team will face Poland in the quarterfinals at 11 a.m. (NBC, Peacock). On the basketball court, six former Cats will play in the quarterfinals. At noon, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander , Trey Lyles , Jamal Murray, and Team Canada take on France. Team USA, which includes Bam Adebayo , Devin Booker , and Anthony Davis , will take on Brazil at 3:30 p.m. (NBC, Peacock). Canada and the U.S. are on opposite sides of the bracket, setting up a potential gold medal showdown on Saturday, August 10.
Here is the complete Cats in Paris schedule:
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL — 11:00 AM: United States (Avery Skinner) vs. Poland; Quarterfinals; NBC, Peacock
MEN’S 5×5 BASKETBALL — 3:30 PM: United States (Bam Adebayo, Devin Booker, Anthony Davis) vs. Brazil; Quarterfinals; USA, Peacock

The big events today: the finals of the women’s 200 meters, which features American Gabby Thomas and Julien Alfred from St. Lucia, who won her country’s first Olympic gold medal on Saturday when she upset Sha’Carri Richardson in the 100-meter dash. The U.S. Women’s Soccer Team also faces Germany in the semifinals. Did you see they’ll be playing in Louisville this fall ?
While we’re talking Olympics, this photo of Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles bowing down to Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade, the gold medalist in the floor exercise, is everything we love about sports. We need more of this in life.
Basketball Recruiting updates on KSBoard
Monday provided a few basketball updates worth passing along. First, Matt Jones shared what he’s been hearing about the current team’s practices from two sources . In short, the offense is elite, while the defense is a work in progress. Later in the day, there was some news on the recruiting front as Kentucky made the cut for four-star power forward Niko Bundal , along with Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Texas, UConn, and Xavier.
Tuesday night is now SINGO night at KSBar for the foreseeable future. Come on out to name that tune, enjoy some delicious grub, and watch the Olympics on our big screens. Better yet, start and end your day at KSBar by coming out to hear the radio show. Matt’s first show back from vacation was great, but you know he’s got plenty more stories to share from Europe and takes on what happened while he was gone.
Roush is now a Girl Dad!
We’ll be without our friend Nick Roush for a little bit because yesterday, his Wonder Woman of a Wife Brooke delivered our very first KSBaby Girl. To this point, our full-time writers have only produced boys, which is great when it comes to fielding our first KSFootball team but I’m beyond excited to have another girl in the family and to see Roush become a Girl Dad. Mom, Dad, and baby Ruby are resting peacefully after a very long day at the hospital.
