LEXINGTON — For 50 years, this vet clinic in Sanilac County has been offering holistic care to animals.

Dr. Lynne Friday started the Lexington Veterinary Clinic in July of 1974. She said that when she was studying human medicine while in college, she became discouraged because every drug she would read about had a long list of side effects. Eventually, she found veterinary medicine and saw that it had a lesser focus on those types of medications.

Friday said she felt that veterinary care was the better suited to her

"I thought to myself that I didn't want to go into a profession that encouraged drugs with those kind of horrible side effects," she said. "Veterinary medicine was the better approach and I've always loved animals."

Lexington Veterinary Clinic is located at 5346 Main St. in Lexington. Friday said the clinic's hours are flexible because it is connected to her home and many of her clients come from at least 80 miles away. That said, surgeries are typically scheduled on weekdays.

Lexington Veterinary Clinic provides holistic care to cats and dogs. Services include acupuncture, sound therapy, light therapy, massage therapy, manipulation, homeopathy, nutrition, back flower remedies and more. She also provides vaccination titering, also known as antibody testing.

Friday said she is hoping to find someone interested in becoming an associate for the vet clinic.

"I'd like to have the opportunity to teach what I have learned to a vet out there that is looking to approach medicine differently," she said.

People can contact Friday to either inquire about her services or associate position at (810) 359-8828.

Friday said she feels grateful and blessed to reach 50 years of operation.

"I never could have dreamed the dream I'm living," she said. "It's been a wonderful journey."

Friday said she sees herself as more of a teacher than a healer. She has multiple visual aids posted in her clinic and she provides handouts to pet owners on how to best take care of their pets post procedure.

Over her 50 years of operation, Friday has received countless thank you letters from clients. She said she has dozens of books filled with these letters.
