    Rat droppings in a sink. Cardboard in flour. Midlands restaurants with worst June inspections

    South Carolina health inspectors found multiple violations at restaurants in the Midlands in June, from a sink covered in rat droppings to a piece of cardboard in flour and flies in kitchens. The state each month releases grades and inspection reports for food establishments across Midlands counties.

    Here are the restaurants that received some of the lowest ratings in June.

    Colonel Creek Market at 12143 River Road in Fairfield

    Colonel Creek Market had an inspection on June 7 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed rodent droppings all over the inside of a sink. Also observed was a heavy amount of different species of flying insects in the facility.

    Multiple boxes of single service and single use items stored on the floor. An open bleach jug was seen stored above single service and single use items. An exposed utility line was seen in the back of the kitchen. Large holes and water damage were seen in the ceiling.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 25 and got an A grade.

    Blaney’s Backyard Grille at 1244 Pine St. in Kershaw

    Blaney’s Backyard Grille had an inspection on June 28 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed fly activity in the kitchen area. Also observed were fly strips over the food prep areas.

    Some foods were seen without proper expiration date labels. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

    An employee was seen handling dirty dishes, then touching clean dishes without proper handwashing. An employee was seen handling a cellphone, touching hair, rubbing hands on clothes and then handle food items without proper handwashing.

    The restaurant’s required followup inspection has not yet been held.

    Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes and Fries at 683 Hwy 9 Bypass East in Lancaster

    Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes and Fries had an inspection on June 10 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed flies near a sink, the ice machine and other parts of the facility.

    Black organic accumulation was seen in the ice machine. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. The reach in freezer was seen in poor repair and no longer easily cleanable. Dirt and debris were seen inside the reach in freezers.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 21 and got an A grade.

    Carolina Ale House at 277 Columbiana Circle in Lexington

    Carolina Ale House had an inspection on June 4 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed flies throughout the kitchen and service line.

    An employee was seen handling raw chicken, wipe hands on apron and then resume tasks without washing hands. Organic growth buildup was seen in the ice machine chute. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

    Significant grime, carbon and food buildup were seen around equipment. Food splash and black growth were seen on walls throughout the kitchen.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 11 and got an A grade.

    Higher Ground Char House at 211 Chapin Road in Lexington

    Higher Ground Char House had an inspection on June 10 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed flies throughout the facility.

    Clean utensils were seen stored hanging in a soiled mesh rack. Cutting boards were seen soiled and gouged. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. Dirty dishes were seen stored as clean.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 17 and got an A grade.

    Los Paisanos at 1509 Batchelor St. in Lexington

    Los Paisanos had an inspection on June 4 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed dead insects throughout the facility. Also observed was food stored on the floor of the kitchen and the dry storage area.

    Certain foods were seen not cooled properly. Food debris and grease buildup was seen throughout the kitchen.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 14 and got an A grade.

    Ruby Thai Kitchen at 100 Columbiana Circle in Lexington

    Ruby Thai Kitchen had an inspection on June 6 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed multiple employees not washing hands before handling prepped foods.

    Raw chicken cases were seen stored directly on the floor. Dirty dishes were seen stored as clean. Black buildup was seen inside the ice machine. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. Broken, jagged containers with black build up and duct were seen used for direct food storage.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 19 and got an A grade.

    Tokyo Buffet at 109 Woodland Hill Road in Lexington

    Tokyo Buffet had an inspection on June 6 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed green, fuzzy growth on lemons in the walk-in cooler. Also observed was waste water inside the cooler dripping onto produce.

    Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 13 and got an A grade.

    US Wings & Deli at 275 Harbison Blvd. in Lexington

    US Wings & Deli had an inspection on June 11 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed raw chicken stored above opened sauce buckets and produce.

    Dirty dishes were seen stored as clean. Chicken wings were seen used beyond their expiration dates. Cutting boards were seen soiled and with growth on them.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 13 and got an A grade.

    Bojangles at 8710 Farrow Road in Richland

    Bojangles had an inspection on June 4 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed flies on equipment and on food contact surfaces throughout the kitchen.

    Bags of macaroni and cheese prepped at 11 a.m. were seen sitting in standing water in a pot on the back burner that was not on.

    An employee with nails that exceeded the fingertips was seen handling food without gloves. Employees were seen with unrestrained hair exceeding past the waistline.

    Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 10 and got an A grade.

    Great Wall at 2700 H Broad River Road in Richland

    Great Wall had an inspection on June 18 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed dead roaches throughout the facility. Also observed evidence of rodent droppings and nesting.

    Utensils for raw meat were seen stored inside diced cooked ham. A bucket of raw shrimp in standing water was seen stored on the floor in the walk-in cooler. Excessive grease buildup was seen underneath and inside fryer equipment. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 28 and got an A grade.

    JR Cash’s Grill & Bar at 111 Sparkleberry Crossing Road in Richland

    JR Cash’s Grill & Bar had an inspection on June 5 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed rodent droppings and fly activity throughout the facility.

    An employee was seen handling dirty dishes, then handle clean ones without first washing hands. An employee was seen prepackaging broccoli with bare hands. Dirty dishes were seen stored as clean.

    Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. Raw fish was seen thawing in standing water in a sink. Low grout was seen throughout the facility.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 20 and got an A grade.

    Nick’s Gyros at 1931 Broad River Road in Richland

    Nick’s Gyros had an inspection on June 18 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed dead insects throughout the facility.

    A ripped piece of cardboard was seen stored inside of in-use breading flour.

    Large amounts of grease buildup was seen on pipes and dripping from hood vents. The walk-in cooler was seen not maintaining the proper temperature. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 27 and got an A grade.

    Q Spot at 6432 Two Notch Road in Richland

    Q Spot had an inspection on June 20 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed dead roaches in the kitchen and dry storage room.

    An employee was seen working with raw meats, then working with ready to eat foods without washing hands. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. The walk-in cooler was seen not holding the proper temperature.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 21 and got an A grade.

    Seasoned … at 3106 Broad River Rd in Richland

    Seasoned … had an inspection on June 19 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed flies on equipment and on food contact surfaces throughout the kitchen.

    An employee was seen with nails past fingertips. The back door had gaps exposed to outside elements. An employee with hair past the waist line was seen brushing against kitchen prep tables.

    Black stains were seen on cutting board grooves. Raw fish was seen sitting inside a sink thawing for later use. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 27 and got an A grade.

    Taqueria Guadalajara at 1807 Decker Blvd in Richland

    Taqueria Guadalajara had an inspection on June 6 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed live roaches in the kitchen and beneath the produce cooler. Also observed were flies in the kitchen and restroom areas.

    Food splash was seen on kitchen walls. Employees were seen handling raw shrimp and beef, than handling ready to eat foods and touching equipment handles without washing hands.

    A slimy buildup was seen inside the ice machine. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 28 and got an A grade.

    Top Dawg Tavern at 498-1 Town Center Place in Richland

    Top Dawg Tavern had an inspection on June 14 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed flies throughout the facility.

    Heavy grease, grime and food buildup were seen behind and underneath equipment in the facility. An employee was seen grabbing French fries out of a container on the line and eating them as she walked by. An employee was seen removing a hot bun from packaging with bare hands.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 20 and got an A grade.
