Patriots Point officials say plans are well underway for July 4 celebrationsPatroits Point Naval & Maritime Museum

Patriots Point officials are planning a big celebration this July 4, with fireworks, food trucks, museum tours and live music.

“On Sunday we open the museum at 9 a.m., we close the museum at 5 p.m. and then at 6 p.m. it’s all hands on deck for the festival,” Patriots Point Director of Marketing, Sales and Communications Chris Hauff told Live5 News. “We’ll have live music starting at 6 p.m. and going through 9 p.m.”

Hauff says everyone is excited about the celebration following the disappointment of having to cancel last year’s show due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Everything is buzzing around Patriots Point right now as we get ready to celebrate America’s birthday,” Hauff said. “We’re gearing up as the destination for patriotism here in the Lowcountry to have a great fireworks blast on Sunday.”

This year’s event is described as a “sigh of relief” , with Hauff commenting that there was a time when he would have been cautious or optimistic about this year’s event. But, thankfully, the prevailing sentiment is excitement.

“To celebrate the Fourth of July and America’s birthday with American flags everywhere and warships. There’s not a better place to do that and we’re so excited to welcome the community back,” Hauff said.

According to the Patriots Point website, the night sky above the USS Yorktown will be full of red, white and blue fireworks to celebrate American independence. The most significant change – the celebration will be limited to the shore.

Local music venue Awendaw Green will bring local musicians to the stage to play live music. More than ten Lowcountry food trucks will be selling a wide range of food. Beer, wine and other beverages will be available for purchase.

After several hours of live music and fun, fireworks will take to the sky from a barge in Charleston Harbor around 9:15 (once the sunlight is completely gone).

After the fireworks show, Mount Pleasant Police will help traffic flow out of Patriots Point as efficiently as possible.
