Relationships require balance, nurturing, patience, and dedication. Although you may initially be attracted to the opposite personality, studies have shown that opposites don't actually attract or at least succeed long-term. You may be attracted in the short term because the person is different and exciting. However, studies confirm that relationships succeed more when couples have similar traits, values, and long-term goals. Rather than thinking in terms of opposites, think in terms of balance. We must compensate for each other's weaknesses and complement each other's strengths to live in harmony as a couple.

How to Thrive in a Relationship

    1. Avoid telling each other what to do or being bossy.
      • Instead, ask for help respectfully and directly when needed in a pleasant, kind way.
    2. Avoid being clingy and controlling.
      • Instead, encourage individual hobbies or time spent alone.
    3. Avoid talking about yourself constantly, interrupting, or being overly loud.
      • Instead, ask questions about your partner to show interest and allow for quiet time together.
    4. Avoid speaking poorly to or about one another.
      • Instead, give each other compliments and speak highly about each other to friends and family.
    5. Avoid going to bed mad at each other.
      • Instead, if you are not ready to have a discussion and make up at least hug and go to bed together and agree to talk the next day.

Differences and Similarities in Men & Women

Women talk more and use more words than men. "women speak on average 20,000 words per day, approximately 13,000 more than the average man." So, ladies, when you wonder when your man doesn't have much to say as you sip wine in the evening, this might be your answer. It is not that they are not interested in what you have to say. Maybe they are better listeners than you thought. Try asking them specific open-ended questions if you want them to participate.

Women are more comfortable sharing thoughts and feelings, whereas men tend to be more direct, analytical, and rational. We can use these differences to help each other.

    Final Thoughts

Allow the man to take the masculine dominant role and the woman to take the female dominant role to restore natural balance in the relationship. A man takes pride in providing for his woman. He has a "hero complex" and needs to feel needed by his woman. Ask him for his opinion occasionally, ask him to open a jar, or ask him to do manly tasks around the house. And then thank him afterward. Inflate his ego and flirt with him. Make him feel loved and appreciated. Thiswill go a long way in making a successful relationship.

Men-- treat your woman as a goddess. Allow her to nurture and care for you, but make her feel safe and cared for as well. Make her feel cherished. Let her know she has your support and doesn't have to do it all. Encourage her to shine. Cook for her or offer to get carry-out occasionally. Plan a date. Relationships are partnerships that take equal effort.

A quiet, calm woman is attractive to a man. She provides him with a serene respite and a peaceful atmosphere that he looks forward to coming home to at the end of the work day. Likewise, a loyal, respectful man impresses his woman and nurtures her spirit. Both people will go above and beyond because they feel appreciated. This creates a symbiotic relationship where both people can thrive.

Thank you for taking the time to read. In a world where both partners work, balance is often off in the home, causing chaos. I hope this helps restore a loving environment where your relationship can accelerate.

    Peace & Light,

    Libby
