First dates are awkward at best. A woman typically thinks she doesn't want to get murdered or kidnapped, while the guy hopes he doesn't spill his drink or put his foot metaphorically in his mouth. Both people are nervous and want to have fun, so how do you break the ice, and what is the ideal first date?

I often strike up conversations with single people because this conversation intrigues me. Most people are not comfortable eating with someone new for various reasons. But most say getting a drink on the first date is a safe bet. The girls I have spoken with say they test men. If a man gets tipsy or drunk on the first date, they are out and does not get a chance for a second date--so watch out, guys!

Rather than just sitting at a bar together, I came up with a list of more creative ways to spend a first date. These activities give you a chance to talk, laugh, and play together, and you will get a good grasp of each other's personalities.
