Doctor in Liberal has delivered over 22,000 babies

LIBERAL, Kan. (KSNW)—A doctor in Liberal has delivered more babies than the town’s population. Southwest Medical Center said Dr. Dennis Knudsen has delivered over 22,000 babies.

“Delivering over 22,000 babies is a milestone I never imagined reaching when I started,” Dr. Knudsen said in a news release. “It has been a privilege to be part of so many families’ lives and to witness the joy of new beginnings.”

The release from Southwest Medical Center said Knudsen’s journey in Liberal started in 1982 when a nurse at a clinic in Wichita suggested he consider working for Dr. Norvan Harris in Liberal.

Dr. Knudsen went west and found a connection to the city, so he stayed. Since 1983, he has practiced at the same location on 15th Street that Dr. Harris built.

Southwest Medical Center said that starting this September, Dr. Knudsen will take on a new role as an employee of SMC, but his office will remain at the location to ensure continuity of care for his patients.
