    Golden Bachelorette’s Charles L. Admits He Wasn’t ‘Shocked’ That Joan Vassos Sent Him Home

    The Golden Bachelorette star Charles Ling quickly became a fan favorite as fans watched him pursue a relationship with Joan Vassos , though he admitted he wasn’t surprised when he was eliminated.

    While appearing on the Thursday, October 10, episode of the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast , Charles, 66, said he wasn’t “shocked” when Joan, 61, sent him home. “I have the data. Why? Because I look around and I sensed,” he explained.

    After fans watched him get eliminated during the Wednesday, October 9, episode , Charles said he knew he was going to be let go “between this time or the next” rose ceremony. He added that he had a feeling his elimination was “getting closer.”

    “I kind of sensed I’m not one of the few final ones,” Charles admitted.

    While Charles wasn’t able to find a lasting love with Joan on the show, he said that he was able to form valuable friendships during his time at the Bachelor Mansion. “The cast members, we support each other but we don’t compete [against] each other in a sense,” he said. “In the end, Joan can only pick one gentleman, as you know that. We will be very happy whoever she is going to pick.”

    Charles was open about the heartache he felt over the loss of his late wife during his time on the show. However, he credited the crew and cast members for helping him open up about his “sorrows.”

    “[They] say, ‘Charles, it’s OK, we know it’s sad,” the reality star recalled. “But it’s also OK to move on, when opportunity knocks on my door.’”

    The retired financial analyst also reflected on the strong friendship he created with Joan. “We like each other, but as you know, like each other is one thing. To love each other is another thing,” he explained. “I’m happy for Joan. She continues her journey to find the best one she really loves.”

    Charles quickly got the attention of fans with his sweet personality, though he admitted it was a “surprise” to him that he quickly became a fan favorite among viewers. “Please tell the fans Charles miss them and Charles thank them for their love and support,” he said when asked what message he would like to share with his fans.

    While the next Golden Bachelor has not been revealed yet, Charles said he would be open to starring as the franchise’s next lead. “I haven’t thought about it yet, but if that opportunity arises, why not?” he said.

    During the season premiere, Charles vulnerably opened up about the passing of his wife. “In the last six years I was lonely because my wife suddenly passed away and I couldn’t take it. My wife and I were married for 36 years and we shared a lot of happy days together,” he said in a confessional. “She was my first and only love. I don’t know how I went through those years, but my daughters, they want to see a happy dad and I really feel like it’s time for me to move on.”

    As fans continued to get to know Charles, it was clear that he won the hearts of fans. Following his elimination , many viewers took to social media to express their sadness that he would no longer appear on the show. “Not ready to say goodbye to Charles L.,” one person wrote via X, while another added, “The sincere heart of the show was sent home.”
