Tom Brady Got ‘Tips’ From Travis Kelce for Fox NFL Broadcasting Gig: ‘He Knows When He Needs Help’

Tom Brady has a ton at stake with his $375 million Fox deal and a source exclusively tells Life & Style that he’s looking at Travis Kelce for guidance and inspiration after early mixed reviews.

“You gotta hand it to Tom – he knows when he needs help and he knows exactly where to go to ask for it,” the insider explains. “The goal in Tom’s first year on the air at Fox is to not embarrass himself and to not blow the handful of very big blockbuster games he’ll be broadcasting this year. Nobody is pretending there isn’t a steep learning curve when it comes to getting good on the air, live in front of millions of fans.”

With Travis, 35, having “years of podcasting under his belt,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was the perfect person to tap for advice. “He’s gently quizzed Travis for tips on how to be quick on his feet and keep the commentary exciting for fans,” the source adds. “It’s about showmanship and Tom knows it.”

Travis has been hosting the “New Heights” podcast alongside brother Jason Kelce since September 2022. Additionally, he landed a hosting gig for Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? earlier this year and has started dabbling in acting with a role on Ryan Murphy’s Grotesquerie .

Meanwhile, Tom, 47, played in the NFL for 23 years before retiring in February 2023 and is now stepping a bit out of his comfort zone in his new broadcasting gig. “He’s definitely going into this process with eyes wide open and his heart on his sleeve, for better or worse,” the insider concludes.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion began his job as the lead color commentator for the NFL on Fox this year. He signed a 10-year deal with the network in May 2022, just months after he retired and then unretired from the NFL. Fox left the position open for the former professional athlete for whenever he made the decision to retire for real, which happened after he played one more season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

However, Tom decided not to jump right into things and took a year off to familiarize himself with the job. “You’re on this crazy treadmill/hamster wheel for a long time, loving the moment, loving the journey. At the same time, it’s a daily fight, and I have appreciation for so many people who are so committed every day to showing up, to putting their max effort into their life and their career,” he said in February 2023. “And I think, for me, I want to be great at what I do.”

At the time, he revealed that he was going to “take some time to really learn” the ropes at Fox before making his debut during the 2024 season. “[I want to] become great at what I want to do, become great about thinking about the opportunity and making sure I don’t rush into anything,” the dad of three added. “I think when people really bet on me – one thing about my career, whether that was when I was drafted by the Patriots or signing in free agency with the Bucs – I wanted to be fully committed and I never wanted to let people down. I think my biggest motivator was that.”

Tom said he’d be taking that into his future endeavors, adding, “I want to be great at what I do and that always takes some time and strategizing and learning and growing and evolving. I have so many people to rely on that can support me in that growth too.”
