Dax Shepard Jokes He ‘Didn’t Know’ Kristen Bell Could ‘Kiss Like That’ After Steamy Adam Brody Scenes

Kristen Bell and Adam Brody ’s chemistry in Netflix’s Nobody Wants This was apparent to many viewers — including Kristen’s husband, Dax Shepard , who had a realization after watching their kissing scenes.

"My friend ... we watched that scene together, the [first] kissing scene, which I'd argue is the very best kissing scene ever, ever put on film," the “Armchair Expert” podcast host, 49, said at the New Yorker Festival on October 26, according to People . "And my best friend, Aaron, from childhood, he goes, 'Does she ever kiss you like that?' No, I didn't even know she could kiss like that.”

Dax joked that his own chemistry with Kristen, 44, whom he married in 2013, was "not as good as her and [Adam’s].”

Nobody Wants This is a romantic comedy series in which Kristen plays Joanne, an agnostic sex podcaster who falls in love with a handsome and newly single rabbi named Noah, played by Adam, 44. However, their relationship faces several obstacles, including meddling family members and major differences in religious beliefs. The show is loosely based on creator Erin Foster ’s real-life love story.

Nobody Wants This , which was renewed for a second season on October 10, became instantly popular, largely due to the palpable chemistry between Kristen and Adam. The Veronica Mars alum admitted that even her husband was rooting for the onscreen couple.

“Even I can acknowledge watching it, like, ‘Whoa, that’s hot,’” she said during an eTalk interview on September 24. "My husband said the same thing. Like, watching the first episode he was like, ‘Oh my God, I want you to kiss him so badly.’ Like there’s a palpability to it.”

Reflecting on how she built her chemistry with Adam, Kristen explained, “I’m not trying to be reductive, but I think there’s a math to it. You have to have two actors who know how to stare dopily into each other’s eyes, and you have to have the confidence to expand that and really sit in the anticipatory value before the kiss, which I think is really important. But then, beyond that, I guess whether or not people actually wanna see you end up with someone is a crap shoot, and we just kind of got lightning in a bottle.”

Nobody Wants This also stars Timothy Simons , Justine Lupe , Jackie Tohn , Tovah Feldshuh , Paul Ben-Victor , Emily Arlook , Sherry Cola , Shiloh Bearman and Stephen Tobolowsky . Erin, 42, and Craig DiGregorio served as showrunners for season 1, but season 2 will see Girls alums Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan take the reins. Erin will continue to serve as an executive producer for the second installment.

“Creating Nobody Wants This will forever be a career highlight for me,” she said in a statement after the renewal, per Variety . “The incredible cast, crew, producers and executives all made this into the show it is today, and to experience viewers’ reactions to this series now that it’s out in the world has been more than anything I could have dreamed. I’m so lucky to be able to continue this story, and to do it alongside Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, who I’ve been such a fan of since Girls … Justice for healthy relationships being the most romantic!”
