It's been more than a week since Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas and thousands of people still don't have power. The category 1 storm produced winds up to 97 miles per hour, knocking down trees and power lines. Almost two dozen people died due to the storm or the power loss. Nearly 2.2 million utility customers did not have electricity at the outages' peak. As of Friday, several thousand customers remain powerless.

The Arlington Independent School District (AISD) recently named Dr. Jennifer Collins, an A&M-Commerce alum, its new deputy superintendent. Collins has an extensive background in education. She taught sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students in Sunnyvale, Forth Worth and Marshall. She served as assistant superintendent for education services at Highland Park ISD and director of student services at Northwest ISD.

Fatal Crash at 700 Martin Luther King, Jr Boulevard
On July 4, 2024, at about 2:50 am, Dallas Police responded to a hit and run pedestrian crash in the area of 700 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. The preliminary investigation determined 35-year-old Lydie Zebaze Metsindon was walking on the Cedar Crest bridge when an unknown suspect vehicle driving northbound on Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard hit Zebaze Metsindon. The driver left the scene without stopping to help the woman. Zebaze Metsindon died at the scene.
