LILLINGTON, N.C. (WNCN) — First responders from various agencies in Harnett County rescued a kayaker who went missing Monday on the Cape Fear River.

According to Harnett County Emergency Services, rescue boats deployed from boat landings in Lillington, Buies Creek, and Erwin to find the missing kayaker on the Cape Fear River. The kayaker was found safe and taken to the Erwin landing, where they were reunited with their group.

“The beautiful Cape Fear River is a highlight of our county, but can be very dangerous, and requires lots of resources to keep its visitors safe,” Harnett County Emergency Services said in a statement. “We are thankful for all these employees, volunteers and others who braved the currents, rapids and rocks to safely locate the victim and bring them to safety. Great job to all involved.”
