Local Children Depart for NYS Sheriffs' Institute Summer Camp
Several Chautauqua County children between the ages of 9 and 12 have made the trip to the Finger Lakes area for the New York State Sheriffs' Institute Summer Camp. The camp, located in Penn Yan on the shores of Keuka Lake, is for boys and girls who, because of economic reasons, would not have an opportunity to attend a summer camp or enjoy a summer vacation. At the camp, kids are technology-free as they make new friends, enjoy the outdoors, and try new things like fishing and sailing. While there, campers interact positively with law enforcement who are there as counselors and volunteers complementing the camp staff. Hundreds of kids each year attend the summer camp at no cost to their families due to the generosity of donors.
