ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The American Hotel of Lima has been selected for the New York State Historic Preservation Registry.

The registry highlights businesses that have been in operation for 50 years or over. The hotel’s present-day building was built in 1840 and was rebuilt in 1861 after two fires. The business has been under the ownership of the Reynolds family since 1920.

Patrick Reynolds took control of the hotel in 1992 after the passing of Aretha Reynolds. He still runs the business to this day with help from his sister Rose.

“Since my grandfather and grandmother came through Ellis Island, the Reynolds family has provided an anchor to the Lima community and beyond at the American Hotel,” Reynolds said in a statement. “It is with great pride that I accept this honor on their behalf.”

The registry also highlights businesses that have contributed to their communities’ history and identity. John Skiptunas, Lima’s mayor, says it has always been a travel destination in the village.

“The Reynolds family has done an amazing job in maintaining its charm and history with its restaurants, soups, and walls filled with photos and articles preserving the memories for all to enjoy,” said Skiptunas.

Last year, the registry recognized a Tom Wahl’s in Avon after that location was in operation for 50 years.
