Local World War II vet celebrates 100th birthday
BROOKVILLE — Harry Willis Eshbaugh, one of Jefferson County’s oldest living veterans, was the guest of honor Saturday afternoon at a party to celebrate his 100th birthday. He was born July 14, 1924, in the Mayport area of Clarion County, one of five children born to Harry V. and Edna May Eshbaugh. He and his wife of 70 years, the late Nellie Virginia Carrier Eshbaugh, were the parents of two children – a son, Will, and a daughter, the late Sally Jane. He has two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Plans brewing for potential 7 Brew Coffee shop in DuBois
DuBOIS — The Sandy Township Planning Commission, at its meeting on Tuesday, reviewed sketch plans submitted by Toth and Associates on behalf of 7 Brew Coffee. 7 Brew Coffee is proposing to demolish the existing Long John Silver’s restaurant — which was still in operation as of Wednesday, according to employees — and construct a 510-square-foot building to serve coffee and a 280-square-foot cooler on the property, according to DuBois/Sandy Township Manager Shawn Arbaugh. The building will only be used by employees and will not have public access.

Muncy state prison parole agent alleged to have had sexual relationship with inmate on prison grounds
MUNCY – While employed as a Department of Corrections parole agent at the state Correctional Institution here, Kenneth E. Jones had a sexual relationship with an inmate on the prison grounds between June and late October of last year, it was alleged in court documents made public this week.
Storm knocks down trees, power lines on Monday
BROOKVILLE — A fast-moving thunderstorm Monday afternoon left plenty of damage along the way. Chris Clark, deputy director for 911 operations, said the first call to report storm damage was received by 911 at 3:04 p.m. “We took calls well after 8 p.m. that evening,” he said. “We processed approximately 80 calls in a 45 minute period, with 116 calls to 911 all together.” Other non-emergency calls were also answered.

50 years ago Clarion-Forest claimed District 25 title
LEEPER -- In 1974, the Clarion-Forest Little League team won the District 25 championship and was managed by Mike O’Toole Jr. from Tionesta and assisted by coach Jerry Sass. The team defeated Petroleum Valley 12-2, Oil City 10-2 and South Butler 7-1 to win District 25 for 11-12 year old all-stars. The Clarion-Forest all-stars were defeated by Hopewell in the state playoffs 9-3. The team was comprised of players from Fryburg, Lucinda, Leeper, Tionesta, Marienville and Hickory.

BRADFORD — In a late contest on Monday evening, the Punxsutawney Minor League All-Star baseball team saw its season come to an end at the Section 1 Tournament, falling to Meadville/Vernon, 8-5. After Punxsy got the best of Meadville on Saturday with an 8-7 win, Meadville got its revenge by bouncing Punxsy in the elimination game on Monday as six unanswered runs proved to be deciding factor in Punxsy’s fate.

Reynoldsville Borough Council highlights new flags, staff members
REYNOLDSVILLE — New flags are now flying in front of the Reynoldsville Borough building. At the June council meeting, a concerned citizen suggested new flags were needed. The word reached the Reynoldsville American Legion Post 392, which quickly donated a flag pole. The John Beck family permitted their memorial tree to be removed to make room for the pole, and Brian Smith, Pennsylvania state representative, donated the flags.

Stages I-II-III Bond Release is being requested for 38.3 acres in the amount of $361,374. The amount of bond currently held on this permit is $361,374. The release area has been backfilled and regraded to approximate original contour, had topsoil redistributed, was last seeded with a mixture of perennial grasses in May 2015, and has drainage controls in place in accordance with the approved reclamation plan.
