A good old fashioned divorce song. Over the weekend, Miranda Lambert started teasing an unreleased song called "Alimony," that is incredibly funny and sassy in a way that I have been missing for her. And during a headlining show at the Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Lincoln, California, she debuted it for the first time live and it already sounds like a hit to me. You can probably bet that it will be included on her forthcoming (unofficially announced) studio album, and in a lot of ways, it feels like the prologue or backstory to her song with the Pistol Annies "Got My Name Changed Back." The lyrics find her worried that a marriage is on the brink of ending, though she is consoled by the fact that she will receive a pretty sum in alimony should they wind up getting divorced:
"You start stepping out Only one thing can console me If you're gonna leave me in San Antone Remember the alimony" Amen to that... https://www.instagram.com/p/C9pvTv2OOMi/ There are so many great breakup songs in country music, even great ones released this year, but divorce songs specifically are harder to come by, and they're usually really sad, and obviously that makes sense. I'm not married, I have never been married, and I think divorce is incredibly sad, but somehow she makes it sound like so much fun and I really can't WAIT to hear the studio cut of this. Just from what I heard in the live perfomance, I can see it becoming a quick fan-favorite and girl power anthem that Miranda does so well.
