Midcoast Maine Community Action kicks off 2024-25 heating season
Midcoast Maine Community Action (MMCA) is proud to support the residents of Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). . On July 22, MMCA’s LiHEAP staff in Bath will begin accepting online and walk-in applications for LiHEAP benefits for the 2024-25 heating season. Appointments have already been scheduled into November. The team will also be making themselves available at community hubs around Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties to answer folks’ questions about LiHEAP and review their eligibility for funds. A schedule of these appearances can be found on the Agency’s website.
3 Chinese Nationals plead ‘not guilty’ to marijuana charges
On July 11, three Chinese Nationals charged with illegal marijuana cultivation pled not guilty in Lincoln County Unified Criminal Court during individual arraignment hearings. In January, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office led six raids in Whitefield and Chelsea leading to the arrest of seven Chinese Nationals and the issuing of a summons to another person, in connection with alleged illegal marijuana growing cultivation operations. On Jan. 10, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Maine Office of Cannabis Policy and Department of Homeland Security executed three search warrants in Whitefield and Jefferson.
Boothbay Harbor house fire extinguished quickly
At 11:07 a.m. Sunday, July 14, Lincoln County Emergency Communications received a 911 call concerning an exterior structure fire at 42 Union St. in Boothbay Harbor. Fire crews from Boothbay Harbor, Boothbay, Edgecomb, Southport and Boothbay Region Ambulance were immediately dispatched to the scene, with initial units from Boothbay Harbor and Boothbay Fire arriving on scene at 11:10.

A comprehensive site and structural assessment of the facility has determined that nearly $8 million in repairs and renovations are needed immediately.
