BROOKHAVEN — The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory and forecast of a chance for thunderstorms Wednesday. The rain chances will drive up humidity and the heat index.

According to the NWS in Jackson, temperatures will reach a high of 93 degrees Wednesday but high humidity will drive the heat index up to 107. The chance of precipitation tomorrow is 70 percent. The low Wednesday night will be 74. Lincoln County will be in a heat advisory from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Heat exhaustion will be likely with prolonged outdoor activity. Remember to stay hydrated, stay cool and stay out of the sun. Currently, Lincoln County is under a heat advisory Tuesday until 8 p.m.

July 4th will have a 40 percent chance of rain and high temperatures reaching 93 degrees. Friday has a 50 percent chance of rain and a high of 94. Each day from Wednesday to next Monday has a chance of rain.

Monday’s high temperature reached 96.1 degrees and a heat index of 107. The high temperature was woefully short of a high temperature record for July 1. In 1952, the high reached 102 degrees on July 1. The coolest low for July 1 was set in 2008 at 61 degrees.
