Merrill man gets 15 years in prison for 2022 crash that killed 8-year-old Gleason boy
MERRILL − A 43-year-old Merrill man was sentenced Monday in Lincoln County Circuit Court to 15 years in prison for a crash that killed an 8-year-old Gleason boy. On Feb. 20, John J. Lahti pleaded no contest to and was found guilty of homicide by drunken driving in the death of Ian Skaar, and to drunken driving causing injury. Lincoln County Circuit Judge Robert Russell sentenced Lahti to 15 years in prison and 10 years extended supervision. Russell also ordered Lahti to write a letter of apology to his victims, which must be approved by his corrections agent, and maintain absolute sobriety.

At least 3 injured in two separate Hwy. 8 crashes Monday
At least three people were injured Monday in two separate multi-vehicle crashes on Hwy. 8, with one victim airlifted from the scene. The first crash was reported at about 10:15 a.m. July 8 in Lincoln County at Hwy. 8 and Honey Road in the town of Wilson, east of Tripoli. The second crash happened a short time later on the same highway. Both crashes involved three vehicles.

MERRILL – Lincoln County’s sale of Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill is off due to a lawsuit filed against the county. During the Lincoln County Administrative and Legislative (A&L) Committee’s meeting on Tuesday, July 2, Lincoln County Administrative Coordinator Renee Krueger said the nursing facility’s buyers, Merrill Campus LLC and Senior Management Inc., had terminated the Asset Purchase Agreement.
