Dancing horses, live bands and a Kid’s Zone will be featured at the Mega Rodeo planned for July 6 at 2 PM in Lincoln. The event, which will be held at 19008 Speed Street, is the first of its kind held in the Milford area.
“All of Milford and the local area are invited to this first time event,” Alexis Torres Fragoso of First State Productions, said. “We are looking to grow this into something even bigger each year, adding more bands, including some country music favorites.”
This will be a live rodeo and will also feature Mexican horse dancing, known as Charreria, a traditional practice initially created in Mexico to help herders better manage livestock. Wearing traditional costumes, charreadas demonstrate their abilities on foot or horseback. The men wear wide-brimmed hats while the women wear colorful shawls. The outfits, as well as the equipment used like saddles and spurs, are designed by local artisans, extending the tradition.
“One of the horses that will be here there with us on Saturday is Enamorado,” Torres Fragoso said. “Raul Alvarez will be here with one of the most beautiful horses and you are not going to want to miss it. We only bring the best of the best!”
The Kid’s Zone will include bouncy houses and a clown. El Primo Taqueria and Latin Flavor will provide some of the best tacos in the area. There will also be other types of food available at the event, according to Torres Fragoso. In addition to the food, Kid’s Zone rodeo and horse dancing demonstrations, there will be live music, including Banda Retono and Dilmar Perez.
“We are especially excited to welcome Banda Rancho Viejo, coming to us from Mexico,” Torres Fragoso said. “They will play their popular songs which many who follow Mexican music will recognize.”
Banda Rancho Viejo was founded in 2006 in the town of El Limon de los Peraza, Sinaloa. The leader of the band, Julio Cesar Aramburo and his father, Julian Aramburo Perez, chose the name Rancho Viejo to recognize the antiquity of the town where they were born. Their first concert was on July 8, 2006, in Navojoa, Sonora. They released their first album, “Como Tortilla Al Comal,” with songs such as “Baila esta cumbia,” “Lastima me das,” “Yo,” and “De Golpes te Pido,” gaining popularity.
Their second album, “Una Vez Mas,” was released in November 2008 and their third, “Soy Malandrin,” released soon after. Their song “Amor a la ligera” became one of the most played songs on Mexican radio stations. In February 2011, the band joined with producer Fernando Camacho, adding a new twist to their fourth album, “Con Que Derecho.” This album again provided them with national recognition.
Their next album “Una Entre Un Millon,” released in 2012, featured songs by renowned composers like Espinoza Paz, Luciano Luna and Horacio Palencia. Released by Universal Music, several songs on the album led the band to be named “Banda Revelacion del Ario,” or “Breakthrough Band of the Year” at the Bandamax Awards. Their sixth album, “Dejando Huella,” earned them a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Banda Music Album.
“We are so excited to have them at the Mega Rodeo,” Torres Fragoso said. “It is wonderful that we will have a Latin Grammy nominated band with us in Lincoln.”
