INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (KCAU) – The Nebraska Huskers enter year two of the Matt Rhule era with elevated expectations after a 5-7 season that ended with four consecutive losses, all by single digits.

There’s plenty of buzz in Lincoln surrounding one of the top-rated transfers in quarterback Dylan Raiola, just one of many new pieces Nebraska aims to inject into an offense that ranked last in the Big Ten in passing yards and completions.

But with plenty of young players earning valuable playing time last season, the Huskers feel those reps will be critical during the team’s trek for its first bowl appearance since 2016.

“I thought last year, when we played three quarterbacks, I thought a lot guys did do a lot of good things. So now we enter year two and those guys are a year older. Instead of redshirting, they now know what to expect.” Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule mentioned.

“We have depth at receiver, we have depth in the running back room, we went out and recruited some really good players, we brought some guys in through the portal. We have a deep receiver room and we have a deep running back room. We have a veteran offensive line and we have three quarterbacks that we know can play, so I expect us to be great on defense and I expect us to make a real jump on offense.” Rhule added.

The Huskers open the season at home against UTEP on August 31st at 2:30 p.m.
