'Kiss the Ground' free film showing

    2023-09-02

IOWA CITY – Several Johnson County nonprofit organizations united to share a concern for the environment by bringing a documentary film to town. Kiss the Ground will be shown to the public at the Iowa City Public Library on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. at no charge.

The free screening has been made possible by a grant from Rocco Films.

Project GREEN and the Iowa City Public Library collaborated with like-minded area nonprofit organizations that work to benefit and protect the environment to sponsor the screening: 100 Grannies, Backyard Abundance, Bur Oak Land Trust, Johnson County Master Gardeners, and the League of Women Voters of Johnson County.

The climate crisis is creating a new awareness, says Project GREEN Co-President Diane Allen. “This summer’s heat, wildfires, and tremendous storms alert us that new systems are necessary to protect the environment. We are excited to partner with others to offer this opportunity to learn about practices that will benefit the planet.”

"Kiss the Ground" is an inspiring and groundbreaking film that discloses the first viable solution to our climate crisis. Narrated by and featuring Woody Harrelson, "Kiss the Ground" reveals that, by regenerating the world’s soils, we can completely and rapidly stabilize the earth’s climate, restore lost ecosystems and create abundant food supplies. Using compelling graphics and visuals, along with striking NASA and NOAA footage, the film artfully illustrates how, by drawing down atmospheric carbon, the soil is the missing piece of the climate puzzle.
