Discover Diverse Gardens on Open Gardens Weekend 2024

    2024-07-11

Here’s another property you've got to check out on Open Gardens Weekend 2024. Pick up a map from one of our sponsors, the City of Coralville; Fiddlehead Gardens; Forever Green, Inc.; Hills Bank and Trust; HyVee; Iowa City Landscaping; Lenoch & Cilek Ace Hardware; Rindy, Inc.; and Sanders Creek Co., and make your plan to tour the gardens.

The 2020 derecho claimed 12 mature trees on Jane and Stan Zukin’s property, 3120 Dubuque St NE, Iowa City. With the cleanup complete, homeowners are re-establishing their natural environment. Deer-resistant plantings, management and maintenance offer gardeners guidance that plants and gardens are possible with wildlife as neighbors. The Zukins have registered their property as a Certified Wildlife Habitat sanctuary. A certified habitat provides food, resources, and shelter for the animals and insects in the area. This haven provides food options, water, and nursery locations for the local wildlife. They are helping conservation efforts and helping protect wildlife and the environment.

Visitors are asked to park on Longwood Knoll not in the driveway.
