Linden, NJ - The Linden Public Library hosted new author, Shelia Hairston for a Book Signing and Discussion  on July 16, 2024, from 7:00pm-8:30pm. She introduced her debut novel, 'E'kalb Hollow". It is fiction but based on the true life of her own family living in the 1930s during the Jim Crow era.

The book E’kalb Hollow is inspirational and mostly about her family. Shelia stated that,"There are stories that my mother and aunt talked about from the mid 1930s. I feel that these stories should be shared with the younger generations." E’kalb Hollow showcases the hardships and injustice of the family during that time. During the showcase she read a few highlighted passages from the book. These were about the main character and a few others that she had a real personal connection with. The name of the book, E’kalb, is her mom's real birth name spelled backwards."

An attendee at the discussion who had actually read the book had this to say," I couldn’t put the book down. It felt like I time traveled in the book to that time.” The reader also noted the book does showcase how we take things for granted.

After the discussion, there were questions from the audience, followed by games and refreshments, which included gift cards and gifts. The book is available at the Linden Public Library and Amazon
