LINDLEY, N.Y. ( WETM ) — The Pantry of Angels lost thousands of dollars of food from this week’s storm which represents two weeks’ worth of supply. Yet the pantry was able to continue providing for needy families thanks to donated generators that helped keep the food refrigerated.

The President and CEO of the pantry, Crystal McCannon expressed concerns over the significant food loss.

“We have lost thirteen freezers worth of food. Seven refrigerators worth of food, and two walk in coolers worth of food,” said McCannon. “I was up every hour and in that time I continuously checked all of the refrigerators every hour and I watched them go out of temperature because when they go out of temperature, we’re not allowed to give out anything if it’s out of temperature for any longer than four hours.”

According to McCannon, the pantry serves around 250 families a week across the Twin Tiers. She is unsure whether there will be enough food for people to pick up in the next few weeks.

One of the people waiting in line, Sandra Calton said, “I know that’s a really hard thing to do because so many of us lost food. I lost food. My electricity was out for almost 80 hours, so it’s amazing that they’re able to still help people out.”

The pantry holds its food distributions every week on Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. McCannon also mentioned that people can donate food to the pantry at any time. You can call the number 607-368-6061 for any questions.
