Heritage grants awarded to Sotterley, marine museum, Piscataway and others
Several Southern Maryland organizations will be able to start new projects after the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority recently awarded more than $500,000 in Maryland Heritage Grants. A news release said the the eight grants to seven organizations totaling $548,000 — the largest amount of the annual grants awarded — will “support efforts to preserve, enhance and share Southern Maryland’s unique cultural and natural resources, including its parks, museums and historic places.” ...

State Police investigate fatal crash on outer loop of I-695, Stevenson Road
BALTIMORE- A man died in a multi-vehicle crash on I-695 in Baltimore County Thursday morning, Maryland State Police said.According to officials, around 2:30 a.m. the Golden Ring Barrack received a call stating a driver was going the wrong way on the outer loop of I-695 in the Stevenson Road area.The two vehicle crash prompted all lanes of the outer loop to be closed. All lanes reopened at 6:30 a.m.State Police identified the crash's victim as 64-year-old John Quame De Love of Hyattsville, Prince George's County. He drove a 2017 Chevy Malibu. Authorities shared the presumed "at-fault" driver was driving a white 2021 Toyota Corolla and has been identified as 34-year-old Liluram Paudel, of Nottingham, Baltimore County. He was taken to Sinai Hospital to receive medical aid. The extent of his injuries have not been shared at this time.This incident is still under investigation. Stay with WJZ for more updates.

Howard County Issues a Heat Alert in Response to High Temperatures
COLUMBIA, MD – In response to high temperatures forecast by the National Weather Service, the Howard County Health Department has issued a heat alert for Howard County. The alert has been issued for Thursday, August 1 and Friday, August 2 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with high temperatures expected to be in the mid-to-high 90s. The high temperatures combined with high humidity will make outside temperatures feel even hotter with heat index values reaching up to 108 degrees Fahrenheit. High temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illness.

New school driveway in York County prompts safety concerns among residents
