The joy of being an Extension Master Gardener
Recently I took a trip down memory lane going back to the fall of 2010. I had retired in the spring of that same year and was looking for ways to remain physically and mentally active and develop new friendships. Having read about the training to become an Extension Master Gardener and finding much joy in gardening, the opportunity was too good to pass up.

The deadline for non-residents to apply to Prairie View and Jayhawk schools came and went on June 30 without a hoard of non-residents applying for admission.
Roland L. Weir 07-09-1946 to 07-07-2024
Roland L. Weir, age 77, formerly of La Cygne, Kan., passed away in Yates Center, Kan., on July 7, 2024. He was born the son of Beulah Bledsoe on July 9, 1946, in La Cygne, Kan. Growing up and living in La Cygne all his life, he graduated from La Cygne High School in 1965. Roland married Glenda Davenport in July of 1969. Together they had three sons and split time living between Kansas and California. They divorced in the late 90s.

Edward Floyd “Ed” Maloney, age 95, Pleasanton, Kan., passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024. He was born on Oct. 14, 1928, in Adrian, Mo., the son of Thomas and Dorothy Stucki Maloney. He graduated from Adrian High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War earning a bronze star. He was united in marriage to Genevieve Cornett on Jan. 1, 1954. He was employed as a John Deere mechanic most of his working career.

Betty Alice Smith Fyock, age 92, formerly of Prescott, Kan., passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024. She was born on Nov. 7, 1931, in Blue Mound, Kan., the daughter of Fred M. and Mary C. Hollis Smith. She graduated from Mound City High School in the Class of 1949. She then went to work at the Linn County Treasurer’s Office.
