Excessive heat is in place all week for the KVOE listening area and much of the central third of the country. Most of Kansas will be in an excessive heat warning from 1 pm Monday until at least 7 pm Thursday. Air temperatures will be as high as 101 Monday, followed by air temperatures possibly reaching 105 for Tuesday and Wednesday. Air temperatures will likely be at or above 100 for Thursday and Friday. Peak heat index readings could be 105-110 all week.

Lyon County Juvenile charged with Felony Theft
EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) - Lyon County Deputies responded to an abandoned white Ford F150 in the 400 block of Exchange Street in Neosho Rapids on July 28, 2024, around 4:05 AM. At 4:19 AM, deputies received another call from the 1600 block of K130, reporting a loud bang and a suspicious person leaving the area, walking away. When deputies arrived, they determined that a black Chevrolet Silverado had driven off the road and collided with a house. At 4:30 AM, they received another call of a person wandering on Interstate 35 who matched the description of the suspicious male from the 1600 block of K130.

KU Paleontologist Group Resumes Excavation of Juvenile Tyrannosaur
A team of paleontologists from the University of Kansas traveled back to a site this summer to continue their excavation of a rare juvenile tyrannosaur. David Burnham, preparator of vertebrate paleontology at the KU Biodiversity Institute and Natural History Museum, is leading the four-week expedition to search for the fossil after discovering the remains in 2016. The site is located in the Hells Creek Formation in Montana.
