Soccer Game Recap: Grafton Gets the Win
Grafton entered their tilt with Braxton County on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Braxton County Eagles onto the board and left with an 8-0 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bearcats also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2023.
‘Learn and get better’: South bested by Wheeling Park, 35-14
PARKERSBURG – Without mincing words, Parkersburg South’s opening act bombed as part of its season-opener. The rest of the performance had its moments, but the tone was established on the first few plays of the game in a 35-14 loss to Wheeling Park on Friday night at Erickson All-Sports Facility.
Countdown No. 1: It's prediction time
Mountaineer Field is going to be jampacked - not just the fans, but with recruits and personalities roaming the sidelines. It will likely be the highest number of people inside that stadium since the changes that limited the capacity to 60,000. Garrett Greene comes out hot, hitting a couple deep passes for scores, but the WVU defense can't do enough to slow down Penn State's run game. Things go into the fourth quarter with West Virginia up, 21-17. Drew Allar is finally able to make a big play for the Nittany Lions offense and Penn State takes the lead back, 24-21. WVU ties it on a long field goal, but Penn State is able to eat up the final five minutes of the game clock, and they kick a short field goal in the rain as time expires, winning, 27-24.
