PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Good evening everyone and happy Thursday. We finally had a cold font work its way through the state, allowing for an end to the heat and humidity, at least for a few days. This evening’s weather setup shows how the cold front didn’t make it very far, and therefore was still causing impacts over the eastern half of the state during the day today in terms of sparking off additional cloud cover and showers moving through. High pressure continues to sit back off over the great lakes, and is expected to keep nice weather in the forecast for the weekend, with another weaker cold front being the only bump in the road late Saturday afternoon.
Dan Foster Recognized for Interim Work in Madawaska
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - The Town of Madawaska honored interim town manager Dan Foster with a plaque at Tuesday’s board of selectman meeting. Foster served in the interim position from March to Mid-July as Madawaska searched to find a replacement for former town manager Gary Picard, who resigned in February. Foster previously served as town manager of Fort Fairfield from 1998 to 2013 and then again in an interim position for 10 months from 2022 to 23.

Petty Officer Second Class Tobias Francis, age 29, joined the Navy on December 3, 2020 as a Sonar Technician (STG). Sonar Technicians are responsible for the operation of underwater systems and undersea surveillance of naval vessels. He is currently stationed on the USS Lassen (DDG 82), homeported in Naval Station Mayport, and has been a member of the crew for three years. Within his division, he holds the position of Work Center Supervisor, taking on the responsibility of the completion of preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment within the ships Weapons Department. STG2 Francis also assists with the SafeTALK Program onboard, an avenue for Sailors to seek the resources needed to cope with suicidal thoughts and actions.

County commissioners deny Caribou property owner’s tax abatement appeal
Aroostook County Commissioners denied a Caribou property owner’s tax abatement appeal on Wednesday during their regular meeting in Houlton. For the past three years, Dana Cassidy, who owns multiple properties in the County, has been trying to get the value of his 63 Sweden Street, Caribou property reduced from $1,383,000 to $150,000. Cassidy said that the city used different assessment factors from other city properties and that he was unjustly discriminated against when they were assessing his property.
