Gorham celebrates second annual Pride event with music, drag, and community support
GORHAM (WGME) - It is still Pride Month and Gorham is one of the communities around the world showing support for the LGBTQIA+ community. People gathered on Saturday at the Gorham Gazebo on South Street for the free event, which featured a lot of music, food, face painting and a drag show.
UMPI names new Assistant Athletic Director and Women’s Basketball Coach
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - A familiar face on the University of Maine Presque isle campus has been named the new Assistant Athletic Director and Women’s Basketball Coach. Mark Knight who spent the past seven years as Assistant Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Sports Information Director takes over the women’s program from Gavin Kane who stepped down earlier this month.
Hunger for liberty: Kittery marks independence with readings by a general and a slave
For just about an hour on Saturday morning, two of the Seacoast’s most iconic historical figures were brought back to life in Kittery, Maine. Gen. William Whipple, who was born and raised in Kittery, has the distinction of being the only native Mainer to sign the Declaration of Independence in 1776. In what has become an annual tradition, the General – portrayed this year by historical reenactor James Roberts of York, Maine − returned to his hometown to kick off the area’s Independence Day celebrations with an inspired public reading of the Declaration.

After 28 years, Dan's Auto has new owners

Maine Lobster Boat Racing Arrives
Boothbay Harbor on Saturday and Rockland Harbor on Sunday hoisted the season’s first two races. Forty-four boats showed up at Boothbay, six more than last year. Most of the boats had tied up by Friday afternoon, their crews ready to meet up and have a good time. “At Boothbay, they love to get together,” said Jon Johansen, President of Maine Lobster Boat Racing. “The parties run till three in the morning.”

Portland director Matt Cascella’s debut film “Hangdog” (2023, NR, 91 minutes) returns to Harbor Theater on Sunday June 30. Cascella and the film’s writer Jen Cordery will attend the screening, introduce their work and, following the film, answer audience questions. A reception to meet the filmmakers and enjoy light refreshments will allow time to visit with friends beginning at 6:30 pm. The June 30 screening is FREE to Harbor Theater Members. All other Adult tickets are $10.
