As I’m writing News and Notes this week, it’s cold, clammy, wet, and just plain yucky. And the weather was like that for most of the weekend! Have patience though. By the end of the week, we’ll be back in our beautiful, sunny, and moderately warm weather. In the meantime, the grass, trees, plants, and everything green (and other colors…) that grows are very happy.

ATHENS (WGME) -- A Massachusetts man allegedly assaulted a man using brass knuckles and a baseball bat at a home in Maine. According to the Morning Sentinel, Michael Cote of Fall River, Massachusetts, admitted to a Somerset County Sheriff’s deputy that he attacked the victim in a home in Athens on Friday night.

Maine's first in-person sports betting bar may be coming to Portland
PORTLAND (WGME) -- With sports betting now legal in Maine, the state's first in-person sports betting bar may soon be coming to Portland. The bar owners cleared their first hurdle Monday night when the city council approved the bar’s liquor license. The applicant, First Track Investments LLC, also operates the Portland Regency Hotel. Now, the business wants to open Oddfellahs on Market Street.

Biddeford mayor makes appointment to School Committee
Mayor Martin Grohman has announced the appointment of Chad Barrs to the Biddeford School Committee. If confirmed, Barrs will fill the seat made vacant by Rebecca Henry, who submitted her formal resignation from the School Committee in July after accepting a position with the Southern Maine Administrative Collaborative.
