L3Harris recently announced plans to "right-size" the company with an employee layoff. The defense contractor headquartered in Melbourne, is laying off workers in a cost-cutting move.

L3Harris, one of Brevard County's largest employers, indicated roughly 5% of their employee base would be impacted. The worldwide company employs approximately 50,000 people.

Brevard County's workforce is around 7,200.

Dr. Gregg Jantz, best-selling author of The Anxiety Reset Continued and founder of the counseling and treatment center, A Place of Hope, states that job loss is one of life's most stressful events, following death.

People feel a betrayal of trust, particularly when the job loss is unexpected.' It's so distressing.

As word of tech industry layoffs increases, it may be difficult for L3Harris employees to keep emotions in check. According to Dr. Jantz, a common reaction is rage. There may be feelings that the employer did not value the employee.

There is a strong sense of injustice.

Anonymous speculations posted on social media say L3Harris cuts are extensive. The impact will reach much further than Brevard.

One former employee posted on social media: No notice. No warning. No benefits.

In a statement to Florida Today, the company said,

“L3Harris continues to focus on operational performance… including $1 billion in gross cost savings over the next three years. With this in mind, we have made the difficult decision to 'right-size' our workforce.”

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. produces command and control system products, wireless equipment, electronic systems, tactical radios, and terrestrial and spaceborne antennas used by government, defense, and commercial sectors.

In Brevard, L3Harris is one of the county's largest employers. After merging with Radiation, Inc. in Melbourne in 1967, the American technology company, defense contractor, and information technologies services provider moved its headquarters from Cleveland to Melbourne, Florida, in 1978.

In June 2019, L3Harris became the sixth-largest defense contractor in the United States after merging L3 Technologies (formerly L-3 Communications) and Harris Corporation.

    So, what next?

Don’t forget you’re in a red state so the unemployment pay is jack 💩. Enjoy losing everything you worked for bc somehow corporate regulations are bad. In the UK if your employer lays you off they have to pay you an entire years salary. And of course your health insurance isn’t dependent on you having a FT job.
