Cover Crop Business Accelerator from PFI and ISA celebrates 5 years
Practical Farmers of Iowa and the Iowa Soybean Association offer their Cover Crop Business Accelerator (CCBA) program to support cover crop adoption in the Midwest. The program is now in its fifth year, and it helps new and emerging cover crop businesses with the seed and application services they need to reach their conservation goals. Ross McCaw, a CCBA participant and farmer from Marengo, talked about why he started his cover crop business.
Washington Woman Arrested on Felony Drug Warrants
On June 29th at approximately 10:49 pm the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Cedar Rapids Police Department that they had a subject in custody that was wanted in Washington County. They arrested 49-year-old Wendee Chalupa of Washington on three counts of controlled substance violation, a Class C Felony, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, a Class D Felony, and failure to affix drug stamp, a Class D Felony. Bond was set at $40,000 and extradition arrangements were made with the Washington County Jail. Chalupa later bonded out. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.

MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – Thursday afternoon, emergency crews responded to Lucore Rd at the Indian Creek Bridge, just north of Brookside Dr. for a report of a motorcycle versus SUV collision. Investigators say a motorcycle was traveling northbound and crossed the centerline striking a GMC Acadia traveling southbound. The operator of the motorcycle was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Officials say the operator was wearing a helmet at the time. The roadway, which was closed following the incident, since reopened.

Company hit with fine after leaking nearly half a million gallons of chlorine into vulnerable trout habitat: 'Fish are very sensitive'
Several hundred fish in Iowa died in January after a faulty pipe released chlorinated water into a local waterway. The Gazette reported that NS Holdings LLC has agreed to pay $7,500 after an unoccupied commercial building it owns polluted McLoud Run in Cedar Rapids with about 450,000 gallons of chlorinated drinking water, killing about 400 fish.
