On the first Friday of each month, Goodyear’s Hope’s Closet offers patrons 50% off all of its goods, and its next sale is set for Friday, Sept. 6.

Goodyear’s Hope’s Closet, at 415 N. Litchfield Road, is a social enterprise thrift store operated by New Life Center, which provides support services to human trafficking, domestic and sexual abuse survivors. Hope’s Closet was created to manage an increase of donations to New Life Center.

The store provides clothing, furniture and housing supplies free of charge to all individuals and families seeking refuge at New Life Center’s emergency shelter. This prepares survivors for their eventual exit from the facility.
“Every dollar that we generate here will help survivors of violence, and if things are not used here, they will also benefit others,” said Kate Thone, chief strategy officer at New Life Center.

Hope’s Closet impacts those within the New Life Center and fosters community engagement. It allows individuals to contribute to a meaningful cause while accessing affordable goods and raises awareness about domestic violence and the support available to survivors, Thone said.

“We do everything we can to sell our items instead of them going into a landfill” Thone said, “We have an amazing partnership with Big Brothers and Big Sisters that’s items that we are not able to sell here, they will purchase it from us, and it goes to their nonprofit too. We really throw almost nothing away.”

Hope’s Closet accepts donations of clothing, accessories, shoes, furniture, bikes, household items and décor, toys, books, paintings, vehicles and electronics. The volunteers and workers sort items the shelter needs most out from other donations that can be sold.
