ADOT plans for Loop 101 and I-10 interchange construction

The Arizona Department of Transportation is set to discuss plans for enhancements at the Loop 101 and Interstate 10 interchange during a virtual meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17.

The project aims to introduce new direct High Occupancy Vehicle ramps to facilitate travel between the two freeways, with construction scheduled to begin in summer 2025.

Planned improvements include direct HOV ramps from southbound Loop 101 to eastbound I-10 and from westbound I-10 to northbound Loop 101, as well as a new exit ramp providing direct access from southbound Loop 101 to 91st Avenue, located south of I-10. Additional upgrades will enhance Loop 101 ramps at Thomas and McDowell roads, and noise walls will be installed where appropriate.

The meeting will feature a presentation from ADOT’s project team, providing an opportunity for attendees to learn about the proposed changes. Participants can join via Zoom or by phone at 1-346-248-7799 with meeting ID 874 8631 0342#.

These improvements have been developed in coordination with the cities of Avondale, Tolleson, and Phoenix, along with the Maricopa Association of Governments, which oversees metropolitan planning in the area.

The project is part of Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Transportation Plan and is funded by Proposition 400, a half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004.  An extension of the half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements is up for vote in 2024 under Proposition 479 .
