The Boys and Girls Club of Little Falls continues to be a staple of the community. At the Tuesday, May 21 Morrison County Board of Commissioners meeting, representatives from the local Little Falls club and its parent organization, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota, provided an update on recent growth and future plans.

Nathan Janson has managed the Little Falls club for many years. He praised the expanded partnership with Central Minnesota, which now directly oversees operations. This allows more funding to stay local rather than going to a separate regional office.

Deb Nebosis, Director of Development for the broader organization, spoke of their mission to empower youth. The Little Falls club serves kids from kindergarten through high school graduation with afterschool and summer programs. Over 35 children regularly attend during the school year, jumping to around 80 in summer.

A focus has been improving accessibility through expanded hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. every weekday. Payment plans and scholarships ensure cost isn’t a barrier. Teen membership has also grown through job skills programs using virtual reality tech.

Nebosis said she hopes to soon finish renovations to the kitchen, allowing hot meals to be provided. This is crucial as many members qualify for free school lunches.

The club has strengthened school partnerships, delivering lessons on topics like healthy living and mental wellness.

“I’m extremely impressed by the efforts that you’re making to help develop character in these young people,” said Commissioner Greg Blaine. “This is more about teaching and influencing than it is structuring activities. Your work speaks volumes to the potential that we have with the young people in the community here.”

Looking ahead, Janson aims to welcome even more families. The club also hopes to expand connections with local farms, teaching kids about nutrition through “Farm to School” activities this fall.

As an anchor of the youth services network, the Boys and Girls Club is empowering Little Falls children to reach their full potential. With community support, their impact is sure to keep growing.
