LITTLE FLOCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — More than a month after the Memorial Day weekend tornadoes caused widespread damage across Benton County, the city of Little Flock demolished its city hall building after it was destroyed in the storm.

The city hall building was heavily damaged by the most recent Memorial Day weekend tornado leaving city officials looking at the damages. The city hall demolition began Monday morning leaving behind a pile of memories.

“There was a gaping hole in the city hall building,” said Little Flock mayor Jeff Van Sickler.

Now all that’s left of city hall is “Great memories of talking to citizens in Little Flock”. Van Sickler said.

“This was more emotional than I had anticipated.” Van Sickler said.

Little Flock city officials know that Northwest Arkansas is growing, and with growth comes change. The new city hall building plans are going to take some more steps and planning as time moves forward.

Richard Crow is the recorder and treasurer for the city of Little Flock. He oversaw planning for the new, temporary building.

Crow stated that he’s been working on the city hall project since the Memorial Day weekend storm damage.

“We were able to salvage quite a bit of stuff out of our building and then got actively looking for something temporary for us to get into,” Crow said. “Since the city of Little Flock is recovering from the storm, it was time for the demolition”.

“I am hoping that this will be a blessing to the city of Little Flock as we look forward to building this brand-new facility for people here to enjoy” Crow stated.

The current city hall building is now going to be located in a temporary building where the old city hall once stood.  The building was delivered at 10 a.m. on July 1.
