At 80 years old, general surgeon Dr. Duane Andrews was still performing difficult surgeries and accepting complex cases he knew others might not take on. “He called it the ‘Surgical Arts’ and ‘the technique of surgery,’” his daughter Allison Andrews said. “He cared tremendously about that. He tried to uphold the quality of his skills and he felt a real deep mission in doing that in a time when (other surgeons were) specializing ... and perhaps not taking on complicated, hard cases.”
Sales tax holiday to start on Aug. 9
Texas shoppers will have an opportunity to save money during the upcoming sales tax holiday. The event, which starts on Friday, Aug. 9 of this year, voids the typical 8.25% sales tax charge on certain purchases made in the Killeen area for the weekend. The holiday concludes at midnight on Sunday, Aug. 11.

Police chase ends in fatal accident Wednesday night
A single vehicle accident claimed the life of one man after he lost control of his car and crashed through fencing and several backyards in south Killeen on Wednesday night. Killeen Police Department released a statement Thursday that said officers initiated a traffic stop of the Chevrolet Cruze Joseph Christian, 25, was driving around 9:47 p.m. near East Stan Schlueter Loop and East Elms Road.
Driver dies after police chase ends in crash in Killeen
KILLEEN, Texas — A police chase in Killeen ended in tragedy Wednesday night when the driver crashed and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers initiated a traffic stop near E Stan Schlueter Loop and E Elms Road at approximately 9:47 p.m. on July 24, 2024, for a traffic violation involving a Chevrolet Cruze. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Carlos Joseph Christian, refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit, according to the Killeen Police Department.
