KISD awarded certificate of excellence in financial reporting
Killeen Independent School District continued a longstanding streak and received the Association of School Business Officials International’s Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting. ASBO International presented KISD in June with the Certificate of Excellence for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023.

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, Judie passed away peacefully in her sleep at home. She was an amazing lady with a quick wit and infectious smile. Judie was great at making everyone laugh, from her family and long-time friends from Iowa where she grew up, to even her cancer doctors as they were treating her. She was a kindhearted and loyal friend to many. But most of all, Judie was an amazing mother!
The Singing Zoologist makes learning fun at Heights library
More than 350 kids, parents and other caretakers went to the Stewart C. Meyer Library in Harker Heights on Wednesday for two shows by “The Singing Zoologist” Lucas Miller. For over an hour at each show, Miller kept young minds going and the giggles coming as he frolicked all over the Activity Center singing melodies with crazy lyrics that described some unusual animals.
Average gas price at $3.05 in the Killeen area
The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in the Killeen-Fort Cavazos area has increased from a week ago, according to AAA. In the area, the average price was $3.05 on Saturday, which is 3 cents more than last week’s average and 33 cents cheaper than it was this time last year, according to AAA.

Local police officers put on display their “heart of service” and fed a hungry crowd Friday at Burgers with a Badge. The Temple Police Department completed the community outreach after crowds of people gathered at the Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum for a free meal from the grill.

Funeral services for Sherry Lee Cagle, 83, of Killeen, will be held Tuesday at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. A celebration of life will follow at 3 p.m. at Sandy’s Lone Star Events, 14600 FM439, Nolanville. Mrs. Cagle died July 5, 2024.
