Special Olympics of Texas and Temple Police Department partnered up once again during the annual Tip-A-Cop event on Thursday at Texas Roadhouse. Police officers served as guest waiters and waitresses and paired up with 12 Special Olympic athletes. Heights hosts program for special-needs learners
It’s the fifth year of an amazing program for individuals with special needs to learn to ride a conventional two-wheel bicycle at the Harker Heights Recreation Center. This week, 16 participants took advantage of the chance to learn and enjoy riding a bike. They received personalized instruction from dedicated volunteers using specially designed adaptive bikes to master the basics over five consecutive days.

Driver dies after police chase ends in crash in Killeen
KILLEEN, Texas — A police chase in Killeen ended in tragedy Wednesday night when the driver crashed and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers initiated a traffic stop near E Stan Schlueter Loop and E Elms Road at approximately 9:47 p.m. on July 24, 2024, for a traffic violation involving a Chevrolet Cruze. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Carlos Joseph Christian, refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit, according to the Killeen Police Department.

A single vehicle accident claimed the life of one man after he lost control of his car and crashed through fencing and several backyards in south Killeen on Wednesday night. City says burn pit caused fire at debris collection site
A nearby burn pit was the apparent cause of a fire at the Temple debris collection site Saturday that drew a response from multiple fire departments to attack the blaze. City spokesperson Megan Price confirmed that a loose ember from one of the collection site burn pits was the cause of the fire.
