LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The official start of summer is June 19 and temperatures are at a steady rise, but that’s not stopping some people in Little Rock from being active.

Many say there’s plenty of ways to enjoy the sun while staying cool.

Janiene Randles says staying hydrated is the first step. “Getting electrolytes liquid iv putting it in the water,” Randles said.

Public health experts say planning activities around noon or evening, or finding shady areas will keep people cool, Larry Betz, the Founder and CEO of the Little Rock Kickball Association says he uses the same methods each year.

“Soak down ice rags and different things to cover up with,” Betz said.

Betz says getting to some water parks or open pools is also a way of staying cool while enjoying the sun.

“Find the shade find some water, sprinklers are always fun, and don’t push yourself you can’t behave like it’s 60 degrees out here,” Betz said.
