Arkansas Food Bank receives major donation from Arvest Million Meals campaign

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Arkansas Food Bank is getting a big boost thanks to a donation from Arvest Bank.

The bank raised $54,787 through its Million Meals Campaign and will be able to help provide over 273,000 meals, with every dollar raised able to provide five meals for Arkansas families.

Arkansas ranked first among the most food-insecure states in the nation, based on rates from 2020 to 2022.

“It really raises awareness about hunger as much it helps us to buy food and distribute it out to our 300 hundred agencies for our service areas.” Arkansas Food Bank CEO Brian Burton said.

This year, the campaign raised $524,451 which will help provide 2.6 million meals through the bank’s 85 food partnerships.

“Our fight against hunger isn’t just about filling empty stomachs but about nourishing communities and empowering individuals,” Ron Witherspoon with Arvest said. “We are very grateful to our customers, community members and associates for their continued support of such an important initiative.”

The Million Meals campaign takes place annually from April through May to help food partners meet the increased need during the summer months when many children don’t have the benefit of free meals at their schools.

Donations collected during the campaign also go toward communities in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.
