LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A master plan looking to develop Little Rock’s downtown has been approved by the city’s board of directors.

The plan aims to double Little Rock’s downtown population, but it still needs funding to bring it to life.

“We have a plan, we have a roadmap, but some of these things are going to take additional funding from the city,” Downtown Little Rock Partnership Executive Director Gabe Holmstrom said.

The additional funding could come from Mayor Frank Scott Jr.’s proposed 1% tax increase, which was read at the meeting but not voted on.

The mayor said there are $100 million to $200 million included in the sales tax that funds components of the master plan.

Officials said the money from the sales tax would fund the downtown development fund, indoor sports facility, parking infrastructure and more.
