LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – It may be hot but it’s summer, and summer’s going by fast.

As time inches closer to kids having to head back to school, of course they want to soak up the sun but on days like Monday with a heat advisory in effect, they’re needing some extra help to cool off.

Whether it’s a snow-cone or ice cream, there was lots of business for some local shops in the Capitol City, but some also flocked to anywhere they can find water.

The splash pad downtown, open to the public, is the choice for a lot of kids. A few kids at the splash pad Monday said after taking a look at this week’s forecast, they’ll certainly be back.

One mom, Halen Escariz, said her family had just moved here from east Tennessee and is being welcomed to Arkansas with the blazing sun and crazy heat.

The humidity in Arkansas compared to Tennessee is the real kicker, she said.

“This is the first place we came to when we woke up,” Escariz said.

With temperatures only expected to go up, families said this week they plan to either stay inside or be back at the splash pad, or any place with water to cool off.
